Nature of the work

The dishwashers wash the work area, wash the dishes and execute various tasks to assist the other employees responsible for serving and preparing food and beverages.

Main functions

  • Applies the health regulations as to cleanliness;
  • Applies the safety regulations;
  • Applies the WHMIS;
  • Complies with the guidelines related to the proper usage of equipment;
  • Complies with the schedule of maintenance tasks for the restaurant and its equipment;
  • Ensures the constant cleanliness of his or her work area;
  • Organizes efficiently his or her work area and his or her work;
  • Washes the dishes, the glasses, the utensils and the pots and pans;
  • Stores the dishes;
  • Scrubs the pots and the pans;
  • Transports the clean dishes, utensils and other objects to work surfaces;
  • Executes all other tasks as requested by the supervisor.

Requirements

This type of employment requires little experience. A certain manual dexterity and stamina may be required. The ability to work as part of a team as to follow the pace of production may be required.

Working conditions

Work hours are generally pre-scheduled. The schedule varies according to the position, daytime, the night time or the weekend. It is frequently required to work evenings, weekends and statutory holidays. There is a possibility of part-time work. The schedule may contain split shifts. Work is rather intense at mealtimes. The work environment is noisy and there can be pressure to maintain the work pace.
